October 2011 - Specialist on-site Child Health Clinic

We have recently established a special on-site child health clinic, with a consultant Paediatrician from St Mary’s Hospital. This means we can offer specialist care and advice for children here at the health centre, who would otherwise need to go to the hospital.

October 2011 - Patient Meeting

Harrow Road Health Centre Patient Participation Meeting

Our next patient meeting will be held on Tuesday 18th October between 1pm and 2pm, in our main waiting room.

June 2011 - EMAIL your Doctor or Nurse

As from June patients can now contact their usual Doctor or Nurse by email through our website. Please select the "Email your GP / Nurse" option from our main menu for more details or to contact your GP.

April 2011 - Measles

There are continuing out breaks of measles in secondary schools across the UK - some have been linked to European travel (i.e. school trips) particularly France. Outbreaks are not due to vaccine ineffectiveness but are a result of some children not being vaccinated at all, or only receiving one MMR vaccination We continue to recommend MMR for children and adolescents who are incompletely immunised, e.g. have not had two MMR vaccinations. If your child has had two MMR vaccines you do not have to do anything. If your child has not had two MMR vaccinations and you would like them to be immunised. Please make an appointment with the practice for this to be done.

JUNE 2010 : Practice News: Patient Group and SurgeryPod!

VIRTUAL PATIENT GROUP

Would you like to help improve services for patients at Harrow Road Health Centre?

What is happening? Harrow Road Health Centre has set up a Virtual Patient Group to work in partnership with the doctors and staff when considering changes and improvements to the health centre and / or its operations. The aim is to establish proper patient representation and input into the general practice planning process. This will be an email based discussion forum.

Our main practice Patient Participation Group meetings will be held twice a year, in March and September and will be run on an open invite basis to all patients. The details will be promoted several weeks beforehand both on our practice website (www.harrowroadhc.co.uk) and our practice noticeboard.

Patient Participation in our Groups

Why involve patients? We have ideas about improvements and we’d like to know what patients think of our ideas and also hear what ideas patients have.

What kind of changes for example? 1. Appointment system 2. New surgeryPod 3. You tell us!

What would I have to do or know? No experience or qualifications needed just an interest in helping to make services work for everyone and access to an email address!

For more information please ask for Reception for a Virtual Patient Group Pack or ask to speak to Dan Redsull, our Manager.

SUMMER 2010 - SURGERYPOD

The practice now has a patient self-service “SurgeryPod” which will allow you to complete simple checks (including blood pressure) and questionnaires directly. ''' What is it?''' The Surgery Pod is a touchscreen computer with additional “plugged in” equipment which enables patients, without Doctor or Nurse supervision, to perform their own tests which are uploaded immediately into their patient record.

Patients can record vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse rate, or basic information including weight and height

You can also complete a variety of quality of life questionnaires including smoking and alcohol assessments, and questionnaires relating to anxiety and depression.

How does it benefit you? It means that you can arrange a time that is convenient to you to come to the health centre to take these simple checks and / or complete any of the questionnaires. In general, the system also allows the doctor to spend more time with patients as opposed to recording routine vital signs

Is it confidential? Yes. Patients are uniquely identified upon accessing the Pod to enable total security on the system. To allow for complete confidentiality, the POD is located in its own room. You will be shown how to use it and then left alone to use the equipment.

Is your data reviewed by the Doctor or Nurse? Yes. All information will be reviewed on a daily basis, and should the Doctor or Nurse need to discuss any of your basic vital signs or quality of life information, they will contact you.

How do you get to use it? Please book a time to use the SurgeryPod with one of Reception Team

Other information: The SurgeryPod operates in a range of languages other than English (including Arabic). For any further information please ask one of our Reception Team.

MARCH 2010 - NEW APPOINTMENT SYSTEM'

NEW APPOINTMENT SYSTEM STARTING FROM 1ST FEBRUARY 2010

What is happening?

Harrow Road Health Centre is introducing “Talk to your GP”, a new appointment system from the 1st February 2010.

What kind of changes?

From 1st February, all patients who contact the practice either by telephone or in person wishing to speak to or see their GP will be asked to book a telephone call back with their doctor (with the exception of acute emergencies).

Your doctor will then call you back at an agreed time and discuss your issue with you, and either resolve the issue there and then or agree with you the best plan of action to meet your needs. Test results will also be dealt with by your usual Doctor and not the Practice Nurse. The test results line will no longer be in operation.

Why is this happening?

The “Talk to your GP” system works very well in surgeries that already use it. It will: • Considerably improve access to your GP

• Ensure continuity of care with your GP

• Get more time with your GP when you need it

• Ensure that you see the most appropriate member of our team

• Make sure that you can access simply and easily the most appropriate service to meet your needs

• Reduce inconvenience and save time

What do I have to do?

Simple. If you wish to see or discuss an issue with your doctor, call and arrange a telephone call back slot.

What if I want to see the Nurse or another member of the team?

These appointments can be booked as normal. The “Talk to your GP” system only relates to appointments with the doctor
